Is Sporttrade available in Texas, and open to you?

A neutral, dated read on Sporttrade for a Texas resident. The exchange never launched in Texas, the state has no legal online sports betting, and Sporttrade's only path in is a federal CFTC designation that was still pending. What that means today, and which venues are open. Information, not advice. As of June 2026.

Why this is the answer

A licensed betting exchange in transition.

Sporttrade ran its licensed sports betting exchange only in New Jersey, Arizona, Colorado, Iowa and Virginia. Texas was never on that list, and Texas does not permit online sports betting, so there was no state licence for Sporttrade to operate under. In 2026 the company exited online sports betting to rebuild around prediction markets under the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, filing designated contract market and clearing applications in February 2026. The only realistic route into Texas is that pending federal designation, which sits outside the state's gaming laws.

The short version

As of June 2026, Sporttrade is not available in Texas. It never operated in the state, Texas does not license online sports betting, and Sporttrade has wound down its betting product nationally to pursue a federal CFTC designation that was still pending. There is no Sporttrade product for a Texan to use today, and we do not predict the outcome of the federal review.

Regulated venues that are actually open to a Texas resident now.

Because Sporttrade is not in Texas and Texas does not license online sportsbooks, a resident who wants a regulated event market today is generally looking at the federally overseen venues below. These rest on federal registration rather than a Texas licence. Specific products, sports contracts in particular, can still be restricted.

FAQ

Sporttrade in Texas, in short.

Is Sporttrade legal and available in Texas?

No Sporttrade product is available in Texas as of June 2026. The exchange never operated in the state, Texas does not license online sports betting, and the company is awaiting a federal CFTC decision on its designated contract market and clearing applications. This is general information, not legal advice.

Does Texas allow online sports betting?

Not as of June 2026. The Texas legislature has repeatedly declined to authorise online sports betting, which is part of why a state licensed exchange like the former Sporttrade product never launched there. Confirm the current legislative position before relying on it.

Could Sporttrade reach Texas in future?

Only through the federal route. Sporttrade is seeking a CFTC designation that, if granted, would let a federally listed product reach residents nationwide regardless of state betting law. That application was still under review as of June 2026, and we do not predict whether or when it is approved.

What can a Texas resident use instead?

Several federally overseen event contract venues are generally available to verified Texas residents, subject to age and identity checks. We list them above. Confirm current eligibility and the specific product on each platform's own site before acting.

A note on risk,

A platform that is not open to you cannot be traded, and one that is open can still lose you money. When you do use a regulated venue, stake only what you can afford to lose, never to chase a loss, and never on borrowed money. You must be 18+ or the legal age in your region. If gambling stops feeling like a free choice, step back and seek support from a problem gambling service such as the National Problem Gambling Helpline, which runs a free confidential line in the United States.

How to verify this, and what changes it in Texas

The position above rests on Sporttrade's own announcements and on its pending federal filings. Confirm it yourself before you act, because the picture can move once the regulator decides.
