Sporttrade in Montana, and whether it is open to you.

A dated look at whether a Montana resident can use Sporttrade. Montana runs sports betting through the state lottery rather than open commercial licensing, so Sporttrade was never offered here, and it has now closed its US markets. Information, not advice. As of February 2026.

Quick answer

A lottery run market, with no room for an exchange.

As of February 2026, Sporttrade is not available to a Montana resident. Montana offers sports betting only through the state lottery system, Sports Bet Montana, run by its vendor Intralot, rather than through openly licensed commercial operators. Sporttrade was never licensed here, and it has now wound down its state regulated betting exchange across all of its former states, with the last access ending on 26 June 2026.

The short version

Montana's lottery monopoly model leaves no licensing path for an independent exchange like Sporttrade, so it was never offered to a Montana resident. With Sporttrade now offline nationwide while it waits on the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the answer is a clear not available.

The detail

Why Montana's model rules out an exchange, in plain terms.

Montana legalised sports betting through its state lottery. Wagers are placed through Sports Bet Montana, operated by the lottery's vendor Intralot, rather than through a competitive market of independently licensed mobile sportsbooks. That structure means there is no commercial sports betting licence for an exchange operator such as Sporttrade to obtain in Montana.

Because of that, Sporttrade was never offered to a Montana resident even when it was operating. Its five licensed states were New Jersey, Arizona, Colorado, Iowa and Virginia. Montana was not, and under the current state model could not easily have been, one of them.

Sporttrade has stopped offering its state regulated betting exchange. Per Sporttrade's own customer notices and reporting from May 2026, the company wound down sports wagering in its licensed states with the last platform access ending on 26 June 2026, and it has applied to the Commodity Futures Trading Commission to register as a designated contract market and a derivatives clearing organisation. That application was still pending and had not been approved as of February 2026.

So for a Montana resident the answer rests on two separate facts. The state's lottery run model did not admit an exchange like Sporttrade, and Sporttrade has in any case now closed its state betting business while a federal decision is pending. If you want a prediction market product, the federally overseen venues below are generally reachable for non sports categories, with sports event contracts contested nationally.

A note on risk,

Legal does not mean low risk, and reachable does not mean legal. Prediction markets can lose you money. Stake only what you can afford to lose, never to chase a loss, and never on borrowed money.
