Hawaii is one of two states with essentially no legal gambling, but ForecastEx is a federally regulated exchange reached through Interactive Brokers, not a state betting product. It is generally open to eligible Hawaii residents now, though a 2026 state bill that could restrict prediction market access is worth watching. Information, not advice. As of April 2026.

ForecastEx LLC is a designated contract market and a derivatives clearing organization, designated and registered by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission in June 2024, and a wholly owned subsidiary of Interactive Brokers Group. It lists Forecast Contracts on economic indicators such as the unemployment rate, the consumer price index and gross domestic product, on climate indicators such as temperature and atmospheric carbon dioxide, and on political outcomes. Because that registration is federal, the venue is currently open to eligible United States residents in all 50 states, including Hawaii, for those categories, reached in practice through an Interactive Brokers account. Hawaii is one of only two states with essentially no legalized gambling, and reporting notes a 2026 Hawaii legislative bill in committee that could codify or restrict prediction market access depending on its final language. That makes Hawaii a place to watch rather than a settled answer. ForecastEx briefly offered sports contracts in late 2025 and then withdrew them, so it does not currently list sports. A contract price is an implied probability, not a prediction, and the contracts carry a real risk of loss.
As of April 2026, ForecastEx is generally available to eligible Hawaii residents aged 18 or older through its federal CFTC designation, reached via an Interactive Brokers account. Hawaii has no legal gambling framework of its own and a 2026 state bill that could restrict prediction market access is in committee, so the position could change. ForecastEx lists economic, climate and political forecast contracts and does not currently offer sports. Confirm the current position before you act.
Hawaii is unusual. Along with Utah, it is one of only two states with essentially no legalized gambling, no lottery, no casinos and no licensed sports betting. That absence of a state betting framework does not by itself decide federally listed event contracts, which are governed by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission rather than the State of Hawaii. As of April 2026 there is no documented formal Hawaii enforcement action against prediction market operators, so the federal designation that ForecastEx holds is what currently governs access for a Hawaii resident.
The point to watch is the legislature. Reporting on the 2026 sessions notes a Hawaii bill in committee that would address prediction market access, and depending on its final language it could either codify access or restrict it. Because the outcome is unsettled, we describe Hawaii as available now but contested at the edges rather than a fixed answer. We will update this page if a bill is enacted. ForecastEx itself is a designated contract market and a derivatives clearing organization, designated by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission in June 2024 and owned by Interactive Brokers Group, listing economic, climate and political forecast contracts. It self certified sports event contracts in late 2025, offered them briefly, and then withdrew them, so it does not currently list sports.
The access route is the practical step. There is no separate retail deposit funnel at the ForecastEx site, and most retail traders reach Forecast Contracts through an Interactive Brokers account, so opening an account with Interactive Brokers is effectively the prerequisite for a Hawaii resident. Available does not mean low risk, and a pending bill adds genuine uncertainty. The contracts settle on real economic and climate data and can lose you money. A price is an implied probability, not our prediction, and we do not tip results. Confirm the current position on ForecastEx and Interactive Brokers, watch the Hawaii legislature, and read our Hawaii legality guide before you act.
These are federally listed United States venues you can compare ForecastEx against. The list appears after the information and shows no paid placements. ForecastEx lists economic, climate and political forecast contracts and does not currently offer sports. Scores are illustrative editorial examples. Confirm the current position and your eligibility before acting.
A clear regulator does not make any contract safe to over trade. Prediction markets and event contracts can lose you money. Trade only what you can afford to lose, never to chase a loss, and never with borrowed money. If it stops feeling like a choice, step back. In the United States you can call or text 1-800-GAMBLER or visit ncpgambling.org. You must be 18+ or the legal age in your region.
As of April 2026, generally yes. ForecastEx is a CFTC designated contract market and clearing organization, currently open to eligible Hawaii residents through its federal designation, reached via an Interactive Brokers account. A 2026 Hawaii bill could change this. This is general information, not legal advice.
Not as of April 2026. Hawaii has no legal gambling framework of its own, but that does not by itself bar federally listed event contracts, which fall under the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. A 2026 Hawaii bill in committee could restrict prediction market access, so the position is contested. Confirm the current rules before relying on them.
Reporting on the 2026 legislative session notes a Hawaii bill in committee that would address prediction market access and could either codify or restrict it depending on its final language. The outcome is not settled, so we treat Hawaii as available now but subject to change. We will update this page if a bill is enacted.
Not currently. ForecastEx self certified and briefly offered sports event contracts in late 2025, then withdrew them, and lists economic, climate and political forecast contracts as of April 2026. Confirm what is listed on the platform before acting.
Most retail access runs through an Interactive Brokers account, since ForecastEx is a wholly owned subsidiary of Interactive Brokers Group and has no separate retail deposit funnel. A Hawaii resident would generally open or use an Interactive Brokers account and trade Forecast Contracts from there. Confirm the current steps before you act.
The position above rests on the federal designation of ForecastEx, its own contract rules, the Interactive Brokers access route, and the pending Hawaii legislation. Confirm it yourself before you act, because the rules in this area change.
