Why this is the answer

Federal standing sits above state lines.

Crypto.com operates under United States oversight at the federal level. A federally regulated market does not need a separate Maryland licence to offer its core event contracts, which is why it can be available to Maryland residents even where state gambling rules are strict. The live friction is mostly around sports-event contracts, where some states have pushed back.

The short version

Crypto.com is a US venue, so its availability in Maryland generally turns on federal standing rather than a Maryland state licence, subject to your age and identity verification. Some products, sports-event contracts in particular, have faced state by state friction, so confirm the current position before you act.

FAQ

Crypto.com in Maryland, in short.

Are Crypto.com sports and events contracts available in Maryland?

As of February 2026, no. Crypto.com withdrew its sports event contracts from Maryland, which was among the states where the product was no longer offered. The withdrawal followed a Maryland Lottery and Gaming cease and desist order issued in April 2025 to several event contract operators, including the Crypto.com derivatives entity. The wider legal dispute over whether these contracts are sports wagering or a federal derivative is unresolved. This is general information, not legal advice.

Why did Crypto.com stop offering sports event contracts in Maryland?

In April 2025 the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission sent cease and desist letters to several event contract operators, including the Crypto.com derivatives entity, arguing the sports event contracts were sports wagering offered without a state licence. Crypto.com later withdrew its sports event contracts from Maryland. A federal court in Maryland declined to block the regulator in 2025, and that ruling has been appealed. The position is unresolved as of February 2026.

Is this the same as a final ruling that the contracts are illegal in Maryland?

No. The federal preemption question, whether the Commodity Exchange Act overrides state gambling law for these contracts, has not been settled, and federal appeals courts have reached different conclusions in different states. The Maryland district court declined to block the state regulator and that ruling has been appealed. We describe the dispute as contested and do not predict how it ends. General information, not legal advice, as of February 2026.

Can I still use Crypto.com for other things in Maryland?

This page only addresses the sports and events contracts product and its availability in Maryland, which we found to be withdrawn as of February 2026. Other Crypto.com products are governed by their own terms and their own state availability. We do not assess them here. Confirm what is available to you directly with the platform, and verify your own eligibility before relying on anything.

Could the contracts return to Maryland?

Possibly. Availability turns on the outcome of the federal and state litigation and on the platform's own decisions, both of which can change. Because that outcome is unknown, we do not guess. Watch the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Commission, the court dockets, and the platform itself for the current position. As of February 2026 the sports event contracts were not offered in Maryland.
