FAQ

Questions readers keep asking.

How much does Metaculus cost?

The core platform is free. Because it is a forecasting tool rather than a money exchange, there is no deposit, no trading fee, and no withdrawal fee. You are scored on accuracy, not charged to participate.

Why is there no trading fee?

There is nothing to trade for money. You submit a probability estimate and are scored, rather than buying or selling a contract, so the fee machinery of a real money exchange does not apply.

Can I win cash on Metaculus?

Not from forecasting itself, which rewards accuracy with reputation and scores. Some separate tournaments offer cash prizes, but those are distinct programs with their own rules and eligibility terms.

Do I need to deposit money to start?

No. There is no trading balance to fund. You create an account and forecast, and your performance is tracked through scoring rather than a cash account.

Is Metaculus regulated like a money exchange?

No. Because no contracts are traded for money in the core product, it is not a Commodity Futures Trading Commission designated contract market, and the legality rules for real money event contracts do not apply to placing a forecast, as of November 2025.
